A Powerful Jade Axe God Celt Pendant
Costa Rica, c. 100-700 AD

Boldly carved and etched speckled blue-green jade with a high polish, in form of a deity with grooves outlining a furrowed brow, flaring nostrils, and a grimacing mouth, giving the figure an intense demeanor. He holds his hands to the sides of a rectangular tongue that extends down from the mouth and is etched with an enigmatic design. His legs are tucked up as though crouching. Drilled holes each side for suspension, smoothed break line on back. In very good condition; a repaired horizontal hairline crack through the mouth area. With a metal stand. A superb and powerful example.
