An International Style Gold Curly-Tailed Animal Pendant
Panama, circa 500-900 AD

The thinly cast gold alloy (tumbaga) pendant in form of an animal with a bird head and the body and raised curly tail of a mammal or reptile. The head has finely detailed braids each side of the head, a small raised dot for eyes. The front paws form loops for attachment. In very good condition, a small crack and pinhole on the proper right side of the tail, a small hole on the proper left side of the tail, otherwise intact.
