PROVENANCE:
Collection of William Randolph Hearst;
Private collection, Dallas, Texas.
Condition Report*:
Lined canvas. Frame abrasion at edges. Discolored varnish slightly visible at edges and in corners. Finely patterned craquelure, most apparent on the snow. An extremely few scattered pinpoints of white accretion, likely paint. Not examined out of frame due to size.
Under UV: aforementioned varnish at edges fluoresces green unevenly. An older campaign of extensive but very finely applied retouching to address craquelure. Scattered dots and dashes of retouching at edges, with a few additional areas of retouching to the dog, horses, and central figures. Strengthening applied to the pink pigments of the middle sleigh and the dress of the rightmost woman.
