Located in what is now the "Four-Corners" area of southeastern Colorado, Bent's Fort was the only Anglo outpost on the Santa Fe Trail between Missouri and the Mexican settlements. Established in 1833, it was the hub of the regional fur trade, and destroyed by a cholera epidemic in 1849.
