Description
RhodochrositeSweet Home Mine, Mount Bross, Alma Mining District, Park County, Colorado, USA
7.2 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm (2.83 x 2.17 x 1.77 in)
Combined together in a simple yet stunning arrangement, this specimen consists of two large Rhodochrosite crystals the smaller one growing almost perpendicular to the larger, associated with a small deposit of sulfides. The color of these two crystals is second to none: not pink, not almost red, but just pure, classic Rhodochrosite red. The main crystal of this cluster is huge, 4.2 centimeters on a single edge, and nearly 6 centimeters on the diagonal. It is rare to see single rhombohedrons grow to these dimensions. This Rhodochrosite is also a unique detour from the typical Sweet Home Mine Rhodochrosite on ample amounts of matrix: in this specimen, it is the Rhodochrosite crystals themselves that make up the bulk of the composition. This Rhodochrosite was added to the personal collection of Michael Garced in the 1990s, purchased directly from the miners on site. Amazingly, this specimen has no repairs or restorations, and the sharp edges are in great condition. This specimen comes with a custom milled acrylic base.
Ex. Michael Garced collection.
