Description
CalciteTsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia
9.2 x 6.3 x 4.3 cm (3.6 x 2.5 x 1.7 in)
Of all the remarkable mineral species to come out of Tsumeb, Calcite is certainly one of the most ubiquitous, yet eye-catching. Fanning out in perfect symmetry, this Calcite cluster, or aggregate, consists of many gemmy, white Calcite rhombohedrons that grow isometrically together to form an overall rhombohedral shape. Interestingly, each of the Calcite crystals has subtly beveled corners, and a few even have beveled edges. Accenting the specimen is a small amount of matrix to the side, a shimmering dark grey to compliment the translucent Calcite. There is some minor bruising on the top of the specimen, but for the most part, the specimen is in great condition, especially considering the softness of Calcite and the sharpness of these crystals.
Ex. Thomas Everitt collection (#TAE-219).
