Description

"AMMONITE FOOD CHAIN"
Artist: James Ivy Artist Statement:
I create sculpture that incorporates natural history items such as fossilized fish, ammonites, trilobites, and meteorites. I do this in a way that invokes the perception of motion and life into inanimate objects that were once alive tens of millions of years ago. I utilize various metalworking techniques to transform my visions into reality.

"Ammonite Food Chain"
Ammonites were the ancestors of the Chambered Nautilus of today. Here, their tentacles are represented by copper rods, spiraling upward, from the real fossilized Ammonite. Within their clutches are: a two-sided actual fossil fish and an authentic fossilized crab from Italy. The fossil Ammonite forming the base for this three-dimensional sculpture lived over 100 million years ago. Its descendants still do.
