Herja Mine, Chiuzbaia (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania

While most of the world's Stibnite shows up as a few isolated crystals without a matrix, the material from Herja, Romania shows an atypical habit of numerous, delicate crystals arranged in radiating groups of brilliantly reflective needles, all growing from a limestone/Calcite matrix. This double group is a fine example of just that style of specimen. Here we have two separate groups; one 4 inches (10 cm) and the other 3 inches (7.5 cm) across rising out from an off-white to tan blade of microcrystalline Calcite of rather unusual, almost druzy luster.
Condition is pristine. It resembles more a starkly modern sculpture than just a mineral specimen.
Overall measurements: 15.5 x 5 x 3 inches (39.4 x 12.7 x 7.6 cm).
