Description

EMERALD
Chivor Mine, Mun. de Chivor, Guavió-Guatéque Mining, Boyacá Dept., Colombia

Good Emerald specimens containing "gem" faceting grade material are very infrequently encountered since cut stones can be sold almost as soon as they are cut, as long as the price is right. This beautiful example is of rare quality and complexity, featuring two Emerald crystals, partially of facet grade, sprouting from the same anhedral Emerald matrix. The color is that perfect point of color saturation between too dark and too light and, moreover, has that slight blue tinge so characteristic of Colombian Emerald. The larger of the crystals measures .88 inch (1.9 cm) in height and .5 inch (1.3 cm) across. The upper ends of both crystals are transparent and the side and terminal faces are bright and lustrous. Condition is excellent with only a few microscopic nicks to terminal edges. It is very unusual to see specimens of this intrinsic gem value saved from the cutters and offered as a specimen.
Overall measurements: 1.04 x .95 x .75 inches (2.6 x 2.4 x 1.9 cm).

Provenance: John Attard [Hoppel # D1360]
