James Lewicki's International Boy Scouts, created for the cover of The Saturday Evening Post in 1960, is a vibrant celebration of the global ideals of Scouting. Featuring fifteen scouts from around the world-each proudly holding their national flag-the composition emphasizes both cultural diversity and shared values. From the United States and India to Israel, Japan, and Greece, each scout is portrayed in their distinct national uniform, standing in unified formation across a cream-toned backdrop that heightens the clarity and dignity of their presence.

Commissioned at a time when internationalism and civic engagement were central themes in American culture, Lewicki's illustration marked the 50th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. His crisp, meticulous style-well known from his work in Life and The Saturday Evening Post-lends a timeless clarity to the piece. International Boy Scouts not only commemorates Scouting's wide-reaching impact, but also reflects mid-century hopes for peace, leadership, and global brotherhood through the eyes of youth.
