Description

Cornetite on Malachite
L'Etoile du Congo Mine, Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
19.4 x 14.2 x 8.6 cm (7.64 x 5.59 x 3.39 in)

Along with an incredibly deep hue of azure that captures the attention of most collectors, Cornetite is an inherently rare copper mineral. This particular specimen is exceptional! The entire front view is covered in a sweeping surface of interweaving Cornetite across a thin layer of botryoidal Malachite; more impressively, the Cornetite has an intense cascading visual when viewed under direct lighting. This piece comes from the famous 1998 find that produced Cornetite specimens of the same style. This piece is in excellent condition and presents nicely on its own.

Ex. George R. Witters collection.
