Next to the femur, the tibia is the second longest bone in the leg. This wonderful and complete fossilized tibia was once integral to locomotion of a Woolly Mammoth, which lived during the Pleistocene. The tan bone comes presented on a custom metal pin base which holds the piece measuring 23 inches (58.4 cm) in a towering vertical orientation. The bone is in superb condition with minimal visible restoration and is fairly complete with only typical and expected wear on the "knuckles" where its porous nature is shown. There are several superficial linear crack lines visible on the top and along the length of the bone, but no instability is apparent, especially given the way the example is permanently mounted on the steel stand.
