Description

Fluorite
Sounion Area, Lavrion District Mines, Lavreotiki, East Attica, Attica, Greece
16.0 x 12.1 x 5.6 cm (6.3 x 4.8 x 2.2 in)

Most Fluorite specimens from the Sounion Area of Greece grow only up to one or two centimeters in typical conditions, so the main Fluorite crystals of this particular cluster are bigger than most, reaching up to 3 centimeters on the edge. All of the Fluorite cubes are incredibly sharp, pristine, and unmodified, presenting as a tumbling cascade of squares that is reminiscent of abstract art. The color transitions from near-colorless on the bottom, to a soft, icy blue towards the upper edge of the specimen. The majority of these cubes even feature thin, elegant zones of purple, allocated to the very edges of the cubes. The overall condition of this specimen is excellent, with only a few cleaved covers on a select few crystals. This specimen comes with a custom engraved acrylic base.

Ex. Thomas Everitt collection (#TAE-159).
