Description

Calcite
José María Patoni, San Juan del Río Municipality, Durango, Mexico
18.4 x 14.0 x 12.3 cm (7.24 x 5.51 x 4.84 in)

Here is a stellar Calcite specimen from a locality renowned for producing remarkably transparent and intricately developed crystals. This piece hosts a dramatic cluster of elongated and butterfly-twinned Calcite crystals, reaching up to 6.7 cm across, arranged in a highly three-dimensional display. The crystals are translucent to near-colorless and brightly fluoresce white under shortwave UV light, phosphorescing afterwards for a couple seconds.

From the collection of Daniel "Dan" R. Kennedy.
