This bird-formed pendant embodies several characteristics of the Jalaca type, including double ear whorls and chin bands under a prominent hooked beak. Bulging circular eyes are also banded for emphasis. The bird represented may be a harpy eagle. Flat flanges represent the wings, exaggerated bifurcated tail, and head tufts. The talons jut out from the chest ready to carry off its prey. At contact period indigenous people of the area believed that harpy eagles carried the souls of the dead to the nether world.
