Description

Greg Sweatt (American, 1949-2020)
Pterosaur Over Ptucson, 1997
Acrylic on canvas
Signed in pencil on back

The Paleontological community lost a talented member of the family when artist Greg Sweatt was lost in 2020. His vision lives on through his artwork that often-represented images of the prehistoric past which was indeed a passion for him. Based in Colorado, he studied Art, and was influenced by renowned artists like Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran. He has been featured in numerous publications and practiced a variety of media to express his artistic skills. He has left a legacy through many works including this quite unique acrylic on canvas signed in pencil on the back that has been affectionately named Pterosaur Over Ptucson. The surreal scene depicts the large head of a winged reptile flying over the Tucson skyline which should especially resonate with the dealers and collectors that visit those amazing Gem, Mineral & Fossil Shows there every year. This is a meaningful work of art with a timely subject matter and nice backstory. The unframed piece is rather large at 36 inches by 24 inches (91 cm x 61 cm) and is dramatically vibrant.
Overall Measurements: 36.00 x 24.00 x 0.75 inches (91.44 x 60.96 x 1.90 cm)
