Charles M. Russell, renowned for his vivid depictions of the American West, excelled in pen and ink works that captured the rugged spirit of frontier life. His intricate linework and expressive details brought cowboys to life with remarkable authenticity. Unlike his colorful oil paintings and watercolors, Russell's pen and ink drawings emphasized raw emotion, movement, and storytelling through bold strokes and fine cross-hatching. These monochrome pieces often illustrated letters, personal notes, and books, showcase his humor and deep connection to Western culture.
The present work is recorded in Charles M. Russell: A Catalogue Raisonné as CR.DR.525.
