Damien Hirst originally developed this piece for Requiem, a major solo exhibition held in 2009 at the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine. The exhibition brought together over 100 works by Damien Hirst, including well-known early pieces such as A Thousand Years (1990), With Dead Head (1991), and Loving in a World of Desire (1996). Requiem marked the first public presentation of Hirst's oil paintings on canvas, a series he began in 2006. This work is a part of his series, "Spin Paintings," created by applying paint to canvases that spin at high speed, resulting in energetic, centrifugal patterns. The process embraces unpredictability, emphasizing movement, color, and the physical act of painting itself. These works reflect Hirst's broader interest in breaking traditional artistic norms and invite viewers to consider the intersection of chance and control in contemporary art.
