Drawing Attention is a signature self-portrait by Joyce Ballantyne, who was one of the most significant female pin-up illustrators of the mid 20th century. A staff artist at Stevens Gross, she is considered part of the Sundblom School. In addition to occasionally sitting for other artists, Ballantyne frequently used herself as a model, often creating cheekily humorous works like this, which explicitly nod at their own creation. A black dog making trouble like the one seen here would reappear years later in Ballantyne's iconic Coppertone Girl ad.
