A letter from the artist is included in this lot. The 2001 letter from Jose Perez to a collector reads in part, "Thank you for your interest in my drawing. As I remember, it was part of my early development when I decided to become a satirical artist. That was in the late 70's," and "Needless to say, I am still living up to my fantasies, creating things from my imagination, like the drawing of the Horseman. He is a warrior from some forgotten past; he has no background, no history, no meaning other than I created him."
