In 2008, Arturo Herrera deepened his engagement with felt as material of both vulnerability and abstraction. Moving beyond flat wall reliefs, Herrera' felt works from this period unfold in space: they droop and cascade.
Herrera's felt pieces are born from a process of cutting, pinning, and reassembly. He carves into sheets of wool felt to expose negative space and then allows gravity, slack, and gesture to shape the resulting form.
