Watercolor on paper
21-1/2 x 29-1/2 inches (54.6 x 74.9 cm)
Signed and dated lower right: McVicker / 1946
Industrial View #2, A Quiet Cove, and Untitled (Figures in a Landscape) are superb, moody watercolors from the mid to late 1940s painted by Jesse J. McVicker. He was born in 1911 in Vici, Oklahoma. In 1941, he received a M.A. degree at Oklahoma State University. That same year, he joined the faculty as a professor of art, later as a Professor Emeritus, and then Head of the Art Department. McVicker was an artist firmly entrenched in the American regionalist movement of the 1940s, and during that time he produced a number of his most sought after pieces. His works have been included in many museum collections and in numerous exhibitions across the country, from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, to the San Francisco Museum of Art.
