In his daybook entry of July 7, 1933, Edward Weston wrote:
"We, Willard [Van Dyke] and Sonia [Nostowiak] and I have just returned from N. Mexico... I have some fine new work; landscapes with gorgeous heavens -- I was continuously reminded of old Mexico -- details of various pueblos, -- the old church at Laguna, the perfectly formed and functional ovens against equally perfect walls of adobe...for in N. Mexico the heavens and earth become one."
