Description
SHATTUCKITE PSEUDOMORPH after AZURITELupoto Mine, Kolwezi District, Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre)
Only a small pocket of these intriguing pseudomorphs were found in 2014 at the Lupoto Mine and of that group, this was the best one by far, based on size and condition. The Turquoise blue Shattuckite faithfully replaces the external form of the original Azurite crystals, as examination of the cores of some blades shows no traces of Azurite. Besides the direct replacements, there are areas where prismatic needles of Shattuckite sprout from some pseudomorphic surfaces. For a lagniappe, Mother Nature sprinkled the whole specimen with bright green, sparkly clusters of what is presumably: Malachite. Some peripheral breaks, but central portion is in fine condition. This piece is accompanied by a custom labeled base.
Overall Measurements: 5.7 x 3.9 x 3.3 inches (14.5 x 10 x 8.5 cm)
Provenance: Ex. Clive Queit Collection
