Description
Variscite, Crandallite & Wardite End CutLittle Green Monster Variscite Mine, Clay Canyon
Fairfield, Sunshine Mining District, Utah County
Utah, USA
The Little Green Monster Mine was one of the world's most renowned Variscite deposits, with peak mining activity occurring in the early 20th century. Today, the mine is fully exhausted, and specimens from this legendary locality have become increasingly rare. This sizable Variscite nodule, weighing 640.70 grams, is an exceptional survivor of that era. It presents a striking duality-one side is polished to reveal its intricate internal structure, while the reverse remains in its natural, unworked state. The polished face of the precious Aluminum Phosphate mineral is a mesmerizing display of mineral complexity. Pockets of slightly greenish-blue Variscite are elegantly sectioned by veins of yellow Wardite, interspersed with concentrations of gray Crandallite and accented further by rich black 'dots' of Manganese Oxide. This interplay of textures and colors creates a dynamic and highly aesthetic composition, making the specimen as scientifically significant as it is visually captivating. Notably, the polish exhibits a semi-dull sheen, suggesting it was finished decades ago, further adding to its historical character. The nodule naturally rests on its own base without the need for a stand, allowing for effortless display in any world-class mineral collection. Specimens of this size, quality, and origin seldom appear on the market, making this an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a piece of mineralogical history.
