The Odessa Meteorite from West Texas represents one of only two crater-forming falls in the United States where meteorites have been found. This example of the iconic Iron, IAB-MG, weighing almost 2.4 kilograms (5.3 pounds), is an absolutely exquisite specimen with fabulous shape, great size, and an appealing reddish patina over the dark brown, metallic form. Sizable, sculptural, and significant, all accurately describe this lovely offering out of the Lone Star State. The textural exterior is full of both big and broad craters and consistent in its mottled coloration with the exception of a white smudge that may be the remnants of a field collection number. Odessa material is highly collectible for any number of reasons, and a fine, as well as substantial piece like the solid stunner, is a true Texas treasure.
