Description
Sikhote-Alin MeteoriteIron, IIAB
Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia - (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E)
Witnessed Fall: February 12, 1947, 10:30 am local time
Given that so many examples of the Sikhote-Alin Meteorite from Russia are "shrapnel" pieces, individuals of the famed Iron are inherently special. Of course, one like this, with an abundance of complex regmaglypts providing a highly textural and intricate surface, is beyond compare. With an impressive weight of 999 grams, this relatively robust piece is simply gorgeous from every side and angle. Solid, stable, and spectacular, this glorious Sikhote-Alin, which represents a witnessed fall that was the most widely observed meteorite fall up to the date in 1947 when it occurred, is a near ideal example of an "S-A" classified as an Iron, IIAB and dominantly composed of Iron with Nickel. This sculptural wonder from Outer Space is dark in coloration with a matte, gunmetal appearance and is a true 360-degree specimen.
Measurements: 4.33 x 3.67 x 2.15 inches (11.00 x 9.32 x 5.45 cm), weighs 999.3 grams
