Chalcedony is a variety of Quartz (a microcrystalline variety) that boasts a wide array of unique and fascinating appearances. The mineral variation received its name after a town, now a district in Istanbul, Turkey, that was previously called Chalcedon. This Chinese Chalcedony is composed of botryoidal growths that have accumulated into a pleasing mountain-like silhouette, with the smooth botryoides culminating into a soft peak. This shape lends itself well to easy display, even without a base, and it can be situated from any angle. The crystals across the specimen have a beautifully subtle mauve-lavender hue, with varying hues of this color subtly shifting from the center of growth, as seen in the underside of the specimen. There is some bruising and slight discoloration primarily on the right side.
