As if being a witnessed fall was not enough to make specimens of the Park Forest Meteorite a most collectible commodity, the fact that the Chondrite, L5, fell on a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, is sure to place it in rarefied air. The seminal event that occurred in Cook County on March 23, 2006, resulted in numerous pieces hitting houses and roads, leaving significant evidence of impacts. This example of the fall weighing 43 grams is a superlative end cut with a beautiful cut and polished face showing large clasts with huge contrasts consistent with the brecciated variety. The exterior of the end cut is rugged and textural with a mottled mix of black and brown hues. A collection number "0405" marks this representation of the impact melt breccia as worthy of any finer collection and certainly has its place among the most iconic American meteorites, especially since the fall was an observed event.
