Description

Gibeon Meteorite - 2,926.2 Grams
Iron, IVA
Namaland, Namibia - (25° 30'S, 18° 0'E)
Found: 1836

One of the major "Irons" and a generally artistic and sculptural variety of meteorite, Gibeon is quite popular among serious collectors and mere enthusiasts alike. The Iron, IVA, found in Namibia has a storied history, and the iconic fall has provided a multitude of superlative examples like this unique specimen weighing 2.9 kilograms (6.4 pounds). With an abstract, modified "barbell" shape of sorts, a lovely orangey patina, and a cut and polished window face at one end, this representation of such high quality is something special, even for a relatively common variety of extraterrestrial rock. With a length of some 8 inches (20 cm) and covered in a myriad of large and small craters, this stunning example looks like a sculpture and boasts a prominent, fully "regmaglypted" texture. The modified hourglass shape makes this extremely compelling, a tapered middle providing a natural handle for holding the heavy piece of metal. This is one rather unique, and one truly superb, Gibeon Meteorite.
Measurements: 7.80 x 3.81 x 3.17 inches (19.80 x 9.67 x 8.06 cm), weighs 2,926.2 grams
