Mimetite
Ojuela Mine, Mapimí, Mapimí Municipality
Durango
Mexico

This classic small cabinet-sized specimen originates from the famed July 1969 discovery at the Ojuela Mine, which yielded an isolated pocket of unusually botryoidal Mimetite-an exceptionally rare habit for the species. Unlike the more common prismatic crystal forms, this specimen features vivid yellow spherules with a lustrous, almost waxy surface that contrasts dramatically against the dark brown matrix. The intense saturation and uniformity of color in the Mimetite spheres elevate this example above most from the same find, making it a standout among collectors of Mexican mineralogy or rare mineral habits. With excellent balance, strong contrast, and a rich backstory, this piece exemplifies the visual and historical appeal of Ojuela's most iconic material. The fantastic specimen is accompanied by a custom-fitted and engraved lucite base.
Measurements: 3.25 x 2.25 x 2.00 inches (8.26 x 5.72 x 5.08 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
