Aletai Meteorite Cube
Iron, IIIE-an
Xinjiang, China - (45° 52' 16"N, 90° 30' 17"E)
Found: 1898

This meteorite cube weighs a solid 631 grams and measures about 1.7 inches (4.3 cm) on each edge. The specimen is nicely etched on every surface that exhibits a complex linear Widmanstätten pattern adding a dimension of intrigue to the square form. The blocky representation is made of Aletai Meteorite which was found in China in 1898. Classified as an anomalous Iron, IIIE-an with Total Known Weight of 50 tons, this material is abundant but not often made into such fascinating forms. This cubic masterpiece has an array of fine qualities including some Troilite inclusions amid the cross-hatched lines. On an interesting note, this meteorite was found by a local farmer in a mountainous village and is considered to have the longest strewn field in the world, even surpassing the extensive dispersion of the Gibeon from Namibia.
Overall Measurements: 1.70 x 1.70 x 1.70 inches (4.33 x 4.33 x 4.33 cm), weighs 631 grams

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
