    Description
Fukang Meteorite Slice - 15.01 GramsPallasite, PMG
Xinjiang, China - (44° 26'N, 87° 38'E)
Found: 2000
Estimated to be some 4.5 billion years old, the Fukang Meteorite which was found in China in 2000 is classified as a Main Group Pallasite which is an inherently rare variety representing less than 70 of the only 100 to 200 meteorites designated as pallasites. The Stony-Iron features Olivine crystals and, when cut and polished, can result in some of the most beautiful meteorites of any variety. The example here, weighing 15 grams, has been fashioned into an alluring squared slice with a few very large and translucent greenish-yellow Olivine crystals from Outer Space. Just shy of 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) on edge, this smaller specimen has a relatively sizable surface area and is one visually glorious representation of Fukang generally considered one of the top-quality and most collectible pallasite meteorites. There is a further duality to this piece, as one side has a reflective mirror finish over the metal matrix, whereas the other features a Widmanstätten patterning, as the result of etching. One corner is irregular as a notch is "missing," likely due to the original shape of the rough prior to the cutting. Fukang material commands a high premium valuation even among the other top pallasites.
Measurements: 1.42 x 1.39 x 0.10 inches (3.61 x 3.53 x 0.26 cm), weighs 15.01 grams
