Description
Goethite on MalachiteSepon Mine, Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Laos
18.5 x 16 x 6.5 cm (7.28 x 6.30 x 2.56 in)
An unexpected but mesmerizing combination specimen from the Sepon Mine's prolific copper deposits, presenting a plate of thick, bubbly Malachite botryoides coated in associations of Goethite. The Malachite exposures on the left and right sides of the specimen have a deep green color with excellent banding, acting as a nicely contrasting frame to the metallic grey and iridescent red hues of the Goethite. Unexpectedly, the specimen has a thin dusting of an unknown association spread over the Goethite that is not readily visible until seen under UV light, fluorescing a fiery, neon orange hue. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
From the collection of Daniel "Dan" R. Kennedy.
