This exceptional specimen of Chresmoda obscura-an enigmatic, long-legged aquatic insect often referred to as a "waterspider"-is preserved with remarkable detail on fine-grained lithographic Limestone from the renowned Solnhofen Formation of Bavaria. Dated to the Late Jurassic, this formation is celebrated for its extraordinary fossil preservation, including the iconic Archaeopteryx and a host of rare invertebrates. Measuring significantly larger than typical examples, the present specimen reveals superb anatomical definition, including clearly articulated legs and delicate body segmentation. Its long, spindly limbs suggest adaptation to life skimming the surface of calm, shallow waters, possibly in pursuit of small prey-behavior reminiscent of modern water striders. Solnhofen fossils of this quality and scale are increasingly scarce, making this a scientifically valuable and visually striking addition to any serious paleontological or natural history collection.
