Description
Sikhote-Alin MeteoriteIron, IIAB
Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia - (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E)
Witnessed Fall: February 12, 1947, 10:30 am local time
This sizable Sikhote-Alin Meteorite represents a complete individual, not an example of "shrapnel" - like so many specimens from the highly-witnessed Russian fall, and this exemplary offering weighing 1,074.6 grams (2.67 pounds) is oriented with its leading face blanketed with small, flowing regmaglypts. This has a dull overall coloration making it even more mysterious with lighter tones visible in the cratering versus darker and more metallic highlights on the edges of the textural surface. Sikhote-Alin tends to have 'its own' unique hues, and this wonderful specimen certainly represents the renowned iron extremely well. The fact this is a complete individual, coupled with superlative size and quality, makes this really special.
Measurements: 5.62 x 3.06 x 1.78 inches (14.28 x 7.78 x 4.52 cm), weighs 1,074.6 grams
Provenance: The Geoff Notkin Collection
