Pristine and exquisitely preserved, this specimen consists of a single primary crystal of Red Beryl, which is totally perfect in the termination and has an excellent degree of clarity not often seen in this material, the rarest variety of Beryl. Adding some contrast to the specimen is both a small amount of orange rhyolite matrix, and a delightful little sidecar of Red Beryl that is growing near-perpendicularly to the primary prism. Even this secondary crystal is quite gemmy. The luster of the crystal is glassy and perfectly smooth on all sides, revealing the intricate swirls of color inside. The Edgehill Collection consisted of many fine gemstones, so it is no surprise that this jewel of a specimen also made it into this prestigious collection. This is a small specimen, but of the best quality, and is an excellent piece for a thumbnail enthusiast, or any appreciator of fine examples of rarities.
