Description

Red Beryl
Ruby Violet claims, Beaver County, Utah, USA
2.1 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm (0.82 x 0.66 x 0.57 in)

This specimen is diminutive at just over 2 centimeters, but visually packs a punch, with its deep red color that is unique to the Red Beryl variety of Beryl, found exclusively in the mountains of Utah. The finest of the Red Beryl deposits in this state is the prestigious Ruby Violet claim, which produces, as the name implies, the best color and size of any locality. The cluster consists primarily of four crystals of varying sizes, the largest of which being 9 millimeters in width. The crystals cross into each other in a dense arrangement, and is offset by a light grey, contrasting matrix. The terminations are a light pink, which transition through a few internal fractures into an increasingly deep gooseberry-red color. The terminations and faces are all wonderfully smooth and shiny. There is a contact on the left side of the specimen.
