Description

"Maraca" Beryl var. Aquamarine
Padre Paraíso, Minas Gerais, Brazil
9.26 x 5.69 x 4.04 cm (3.63 x 2.23 x 1.68 in)

From Padre Paraíso comes this stout, large Aquamarine crystal, gemmy around the edges and sea-blue in color. The termination seems to have a mix of conchoidal fracturing and natural etching, which reveals the very unusual cross section on the C-axis of this crystal: the interior of the prism has a unique rolled-crepe look, as if the crystal was made up of thin layers rolled into itself, leaving behind spaces that allows one to actually see right through the crystal. Somewhere in this "roll" there is a loose piece of Aquamarine trapped within, and when you shake the specimen, you will actually hear it rattling around: hence this specimen's nickname of "The Maraca."

More Information: This specimen is in great condition, with some conchoidal fracturing on the termination plane. There are no repairs or restorations.
