This exquisite gemstone is a Hessonite Garnet from Sri Lanka. This variety of Garnet is of the Grossular species and is admired for its deep "cinnamon" coloration. From a renowned locality, this sizable example presents with a dynamic reddish orange hue, weighs in at nearly 17 carats, and displays a stylish cushion cut with mixed-cut faceting and is slightly included. The gem displays the characteristic "scotch-in-water" effect, with an internal appearance similar to how scotch appears when poured into water. The visual quality is caused by internal inclusions, creating a distinct aspect and adding a look of movement within the stone. The Garnet is in overall good condition with a few abrasions to the facet junctions, and the pavilion is slightly askew; however, this is not noticeable when viewed from the table. The vibrant gem's well-balanced, saturated hue, good brilliance, nice polish, and strong luster make this one phenomenal example of the popular gemstone variety, exuding both weight and panache.
