A Large Mezcala Stone Idol
c. 300 - 100 BC

The standing idol is in celt form, with sawing, grinding, and polishing techniques having produced a square-jawed human with shallow facial features; the shell overlays for eyes were possibly added later.. The speckled pale greenish / gray image is further shaped to have a squared torso with incised arm delineations and sawn separation of the legs.
