The unusually carved old bowl is supported by a woman holding what appears to be a full-grown man in traditional Ifa diviner's clothing, as if he were an infant. Bowls of this type were utilized in Yoruba Ifa divination, and as such, are often carved with Ifa iconography, which can be seen on the male figure. The subjects may refer to a female devotee caring for and nurturing the diviner.
