NOTE:
Looking at a caustically high-spirited work such as Go Team (2004)-with its miniatured gun-toting Patty Hearsts, its crossed pistols, its leaping tiger wearing the Statue of Libertys crown and its general conflation of guerrilla warfare and mobilization of American troops-you sense Faunce would like to be making another sort of painting, that he wishes there were other subjects.
But there aren't, so deal with it.
"I'm optimistic and defeatist at the same time," writes Faunce in an email sent at 3 a.m. "I've learned to be comfortable with this position."
