Description

UVITE TOURMALINE
Pomba Pit, Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Brazil

If you didn't know better, this scintillating confection of apple green could be mistaken for a product of a master candy-maker. Lustrous, flashing faces abound on both sides of this crystalline Tourmaline jewel. The aggregate grew in the form of a 'fin' of crystals growing out from the wall of a fissure as demonstrated by the single attachment point on one edge. As a result, there is no matrix accompanying the Uvite. The normal habit, or form, for Tourmaline is that of an elongated prism very similar to and often referred to as a "pencil." In this case that elongation is not present, leading to crystals of a tabular shape quite different from "normal" Tourmaline crystals. The color is also anomalous, being the dark green of cucumbers and similar vegetables: a color unique to Uvite Tourmaline as Iron is an essential component of this rare member of the Tourmaline Group. This fine specimen is in pristine condition and has a custom acrylic stand.
Overall Measurements: 4.25 x 2.5 x 1.0 inches (10.8 x 6.35 x 2.54 cm)
Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Keith Proctor [Hoppel #D1828]
