Hugo Ungewitter, a well-known German painter of military, hunting, animal and sporting scenes, studied at the Dusseldorf Academy from 1888 to 1897. This particular history painting by Hugo Ungewitter depicts Frederick the Great (1712-1786) of the House of Hohenzollern erect upon his mount, looking into the foggy field of battle. He is accompanied by his brother, Prince Henry, and Prussian Generals, who survey the terrain over which they plan the waging of the next battle.
