Description
VANADINITEMibladen, Midelt, Khénifra Province, Meknès-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Vanadinite: the chloro-vanadate of Lead has been a favorite of mineral collectors for years based on the strongly attractive red and orange hues often seen in better examples. Rarity and desirability go up with the size of the crystals and the specimen. Good color and luster are also part of the quality criteria. The large cabinet specimen seen here features hexagonal single crystals up to 0.75 inch (1.8 cm) across piled on top of a contrasting black matrix. The color ranges from deep orange in a few areas to a dark red exhibited by most crystals. The luster is sub-adamantine and the crystals are sharp with only a couple of minor "Wilbers" in inconsequential places. This is a seriously good example of this very attractive Lead mineral.
Overall measurements: 8 x 3 x 3 inches (20.3 x 7.6 x 7.6 cm). Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: Collector's Edge [Hoppel Collection # D0052]
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
