Shulak's pointillistic paintings are quite rare. Storm at the Mount of the Holy Cross is an exceptional example. Shulak's travels exposed her to Native American Spirituality. This painting represents "the give and take of the earth." Shulak painted to capture the scene as it would have appeared in the 1800's, paying great attention to its details in costume, geography, and the marks on the canoe.
