Description

Sikhote-Alin Meteorite
Iron, IIAB
Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia - (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E)
Witnessed Fall: 12 February 1947 10:30 am local time
2.36 x 1.91 x 1.74 inches (5.99 x 4.84 x 4.43 cm)

A serious example of Sikhote-Alin Meteorite, this piece of "shrapnel" weighing a substantial 269 grams is a really large specimen of the torn metal resulting from violent fragmentation when this bolide exploded in Siberia in 1947. This rugged and dimensional piece is more like a complete individual than a fragment.

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
