This radiant pair of Hoploscaphites nodules from the Cretaceous Fox Hill Formation of South Dakota reveals stunning flashes of color across their unpolished surfaces. When split, each half displays the graceful, spiral structure of the ammonite shell, preserved in a mosaic of iridescent hues ranging from rose and gold to violet and green. The delicate patterning reflects the original nacreous layer, transformed through eons within the Pierre Shale. Such nodules are treasured both for their scientific value and their natural beauty, bridging paleontology and art in one extraordinary specimen.
