This specimen, a "sea scorpion" from the Silurian Period over 400 million years ago, is notably ancient even by fossil standards. Found in the famous Fiddlers Green Formation in New York, this offering represents a Eurypterus, a member of the Eurypterid group. The fossil measures 3.15 inches (8 cm) from tip to tail and presents a dynamic form, suggesting the creature was gliding through ancient ocean waters. Resting on a blocky matrix of greenish-gray rock, this fabulous fossil has undergone relatively minimal restoration.
